Men's Health - March 2009
"The average piece of chicken has 165% more fat than it did in 1970, while its protein content has dropped
by a third, according to researchers at London Metropolitan University. Because we no longer eat chickens
that roam the farm eating bugs and grasses - today they're kept in cages and fed antibiotic-laced soy and
corn and other unnatural foods. Today's chicken has more fat calories than protein calories."
Here is a new pasture broiler hoop with new bird
occupants. The birds are kept in this structure for
the next several days so they understand that this
is their home. They are moved up to two times a
day to fresh grass. After a few days they are let out
at day break to graze within the safety of the
electric fence. In the evening they return to the
hoop to roost or simply lay on the grass. Once we
are at the stage of letting the birds out every day,
the hoop is moved every several days depending
on the condition of the pasture.

Turkeys - Hogs - and the Farm Hands
We like to raise heritage turkeys with some
commercial whites. In general the turkeys
have a spacious amount of pasture to
themselves and Rhonda will let them roam
the farm every day for some "free play". This
year we will raise about 200 turkeys.
Some of our Tamworth Sows during the cold
season. They are a hardy hog that can
generally take harsh weather.
Rhonda and Ollie, a gentle boar who is
enjoying his wallow.

"real" turkeys. They have a very prominent breast bone
with long, graceful legs. These breeds do not get as
large as the Broad Breasted Whites. The flavor is
superior with the best gravy! All of our turkeys are raised

antibiotics. Order quickly!
